McKinnon & part of Ormond
Home to the highly acclaimed McKinnon Secondary College, McKinnon has a boutique style village atmosphere that nestles in quite nicely between Bentleigh and Ormond.
Full of beautiful Californian Bungalows, Art Deco treasures and lovely leafy avenues, McKinnon is dedicated to keeping the homely residential landscape of its beauty, while offsetting the period flavour with some contemporary high-density buildings shooting up in and around the new train station.
McKinnon is home to the picturesque Allnutt Park, which is often featured in some commercials and television shows, as well as the delightful Wattle Grove Reserve and the sports facilities at McKinnon Reserve.
The 626 bus takes you to Elsternwick and Chadstone Shopping Centre, and there is a bike trail from Allnutt Park along Elster Creek to Nepean Highway.
The cafes are amazing in McKinnon Village, with the eclectic Mr Burch with its high tea afternoons, the vintage pop and mid-century styling at Son of a Burch and the delicious Miss Ladybird Cakes. There’s the deli that always gets great reviews, and the bakery is just warm fuzzy breaded bliss. Amarillo Plus is the design boutique you have to see, but most of all, McKinnon Village has something for everyone – florists, butcher, home servicing, car servicing, a medical centre… you name it, you’ll find it.
